Hospital Stay and Bringing Home Baby

We had a great hospital stay. Again our nurses were fantastic, and certainly being a nurse myself helped me know what to expect and when/why to call for assistance. Otherwise, we just enjoyed our sweet little girl. We invited Grandma to spend the night with us at the hospital, but she wisely left us alone to enjoy our new family. I had planned to send Evy to the nursery so I could sleep, but there were so many babies born on the same day that the nursery was packed and I decided to keep her with me, except for a few hours.  Strangely, despite being exhausted, I didn't even want to blink for fear I would miss one little second of Evy's life!

Unfortunately, recovery was worse than I expected and breastfeeding just about put me over the edge! Ouch! Because of the blood thinners I had to be on I couldn't take ibuprofen for pain. I hated to take anything stronger, but because of my tear, I needed it! I took just enough to take the edge off and to keep me feeling a bit nauseated. ;)  I requested to have the lactation specialist come in to make sure I was nursing Evy correctly. She said she seemed to be latching well, but I cringed and clenched my toes and jaw every time I had to feed her. I knew it would hurt, but WOW!

On the second day of our stay, I dressed Evy up in a cute outfit with a little flower headband and the nurse said, "Aww, can I go show her off in the nursery?"

Our friends Paige and Sarah Feichtinger came to visit as well as Andy and Leisl Newman. We Skyped Evy's cousins and uncles and aunts!

Time to take Baby Evy home! I suppose I should have been nervous, but I was excited to get home and our start our new life together! With that being said, I knew I would miss having three delicious meals delivered to my room each day. I ordered a feast each meal and enough chocolate ice cream to give someone diabetes!

When we got home Brett ordered Jimmy John's for lunch. He ordered the sandwiches online and entered the following for our names...

"Sperm Donor" (misspelled and wrote "Sprem)
 "New Mom"
"The New Grandma" (misspelled and wrote "Grandman")

Brett ran a few errands later that afternoon and Evy was zonked in Grandmas arms. My mom told me I should take a nap while I had the chance. She tucked me in on the couch and I started crying, "I don't want to take a nap, Mom. I'm afraid I'll miss something!" She assured me Evy wouldn't start walking or talking while I slept so I closed my eyes and slept for longer than I had in days.

We couldn't believe the striking resemblance between Evy and her Daddy. Staff at the hospital and Evy's pediatrician would walk into our hospital room, look at Evy and then look back and forth and Brett and me and say, "She looks like her dad!"
